(I forgot to bring my camera to the race, so the kids snapped this pic once we got home :-O)
April 2nd, 2011.
(it's June 16th and I don't remember much about this race from so many moons ago....)
Ringing In Spring 2011 was almost exactly like the years past...the 2009 race was my very first race ever, so this race holds a special place in my heart. Chris and I met Jackie there and dropped the kids at kiddie care. We had a few minutes to spare before the run, so we putzed around talking to people, and mostly people watching, and making fun of those who aren't as cool as us ;-))We ran into Michelle K and hung out with her before the run too.....Once the race started we all took off....Chris took off like a rocket, Michelle and I ran a normal pace, and Jackie took her post-surgery knee for it's first race. The course itself is relatively flat, and really rather 'simple'....I do know that in years past there has been a hill worth mentioning towards the end, but the last half of the race was re-routed this year, so I was saving up some reserves for a hill that never existed. I was aiming to finish in under 30:00 (this extra winter weight that I am STILL carrying -- damn old age -- is really slowing my mile down...A LOT) and I was wearing my Garmin so I could keep myself at a 10:00 mile. It was another Ringing In Spring -- nothing fancy, nothing boring -- just a HUGE race for NW Indiana, and a great way to "open" the 2011 race season (even though we had already done the Foot Pursuit)
